Drones are small, lightly-armed robots equipped with very small mass effect fields that allow them to levitate. They are also equipped with basic VI programming allowing them to adapt to changing situations on the battlefield, and have a small amount of shielding. Combat drones tend to be deployed in wings as ‘cannon fodder’, creating distractions for marines to operate safely. Soldiers refer to friendly drones as ‘flocks’ and enemy drones as ‘swarms’. Drones are a key element of the Alliance’s military initiative, but they are also used by other races to a lesser extent. Drones come in many shapes and sizes, with varying complexity.
The most common type of drone is the modular, omni tool controlled flat disc. With one interior modular tech bay, and two 'hot swap' external bays, this small drone can be carried on armour attached to hard points on the back, and deployed in moments

Micro Drone
Micro Drones are typically used in conjunction with a Modular Drone, Omni Tool function, or Dedicated Drone Support unit. These typically act as remote range boosters, allowing a drone to cover a much larger area than standard and explore areas accessable only via tiny spaces.
The specific function of Micro Drones depends on the application purchased, and typically cannot be altered except by a complete rebuild. A Typical Modular Drone may have up to six micro drones in a support swarm. Additional drones would require a larger V.I. package. Omni Tool functions can typically manage one or two depending on function.

Omni Drone
Omni Drones, as the name implies, are drones minifactured and controlled by a users Omni Tool. Each type of drone requires its own Omni Tool Mod, and each mod can typically only control one active drone at a time (although most advanced and master omni tools can have two drones linked, using one at a time).
The Mini Drone unit that projects the Omni Drone barrier field is a small spherical projector two to three inches in diameter, this has tine mass fields for movement, kinetic barriers and other functions, all of which are controlled from the Omni Tool.
The Basic Omni drone is a popular office assistant, allowing small items, private messages and the like to be delivered around and between close offices with little to no cost involved. Linked to a local comm net, this can increase the range, but can be susceptible to hackers.
A Combat Drone is a holographic projection about a Mini Drone projector that can be deployed via a user's omni-tool to disrupt enemy electronics and pester combatants. When activated, a basketball-sized orb of energy is created with a moderate layer of shielding. This orb can be programmed in a variety of tactics, from zapping organic and synthetic enemies with different voltages of energy to frying nearby electronic equipment with that same technology. The drone naturally fizzles out approximately 50 to 100 meters from the user, or when its shields are destroyed.
A Defense Drone is a holographic projection about a Mini Drone that can be deployed via a user's omni-tool to defend the user from close quarters attacks and provide combat analysis. Like its "cousin" application, Combat Drone, when activated it spawns a basketball-sized hologram with a moderate set of kinetic barriers. The drone is programmed to remain within 3 to 5 meters of the deployer, using electrical shocks and a Tactical Scan-esque program to ward off enemies coming to attack in close quarters and to warn of distant enemies. The scan has a range of 50 to 100 meters, and the drone will fizzle out after its barriers are destroyed. If the user is incapacitated, the defense drone will place itself between the user and incoming fire if possible while it is active.
The Submission Net is an omni-tool Mini Drone application utilized for hunting prey. When activated, a thin, electrified net is minifactured out of omni-gel and formed around a Mini Drone, this is then launched at the target, capturing them and compressing them while giving out a mild to severe shock. The severe nature of this weapon has led to the Citadel Council declaring use of the application illegal. It was originally developed by asari hunters on Thessia, however batarian slavers quickly discovered the application's true potential when they made contact with the Council. As time progressed, the weapon has gotten more and more efficient and deadly, with additions such as electrified tendrils and self-tightening line being added later on.
